Yahshua offered a single miraculous sign in authenticating His Messianic claim: the Sign of Yonah (Mattityahu 12:38-41). Most notable is the association between Yonah's three days and three nights in the belly of the great fish and Yahshua's three days and three nights in the heart of the earth. It's a stipulation too long ignored; for either the Good Friday - Easter Sunday tradition is in error, or the Carpenter from Natzeret isn't who He claimed to be. But more than this, the Sign of Yonah encompasses a complete re-manifestation of Yonah's life and ministry. From calming the storm on the Sea of Galil to offering salvation among the Gentiles; and from being rejected by His own countrymen to being lifted up in the course of dying. Mashiach's entire ministry is predicated upon the Galilean prophet-of-old. Yonah seems an unexpected candidate for Yahshua to invoke as precedent for His earthly ministry. Yet just as unexpected, the theological implications of Yonah challenge the status quo of Gospel chronology. Effecting both the day of His crucifixion and the duration of His ministry, viewing the Gospels through the lens of Yonah gives new perspective to the chronological record. This is a serious study into the depths of Scripture that sheds new light on Mashiach's ministry while equipping talmidim to emerge from the abyss of religious orthodoxy onto the solid ground of YHVH's Word.
